Well, Amy Lee is back now. At least, the hacker group known as Anonymous has brought her back into the spotlight. If their allegations are true, she will probably wish that she remained in obscurity.
Though Anonymous is typically portrayed as an evil organization that hacks into important government systems and causes chaos (and this is sort of true), the group also does some good. Specifically, Anonymous uses its collective hacking abilities to expose child pornographers.
Anonymous’ “Operation PedoChat” has just named Lee and her manager, Andrew Lurie, as targets.

There’s been a petition to British parliament filed, in which MP John Hemming alleges that Lee’s laywers forced an EvThreads user named Sam Smith not to report a number of child porn-related offenses on the site.
Specifically, Hemming’s petition says that these offenses include the publication of a series of indecent sexual images, including “sexual offences against a physically disabled male minor and cartoons with pre-teens in lawful poses but with sexualised captions, including sexual activity with animals and one caption regarding a toddler consuming human faeces.”
Pretty vague. Frankly, it sounds like a normal day for 4chan and not anything like a coordinated child porn ring.
At this time, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Lee had any direct involvement with indecent images, child porn or otherwise. We don’t even know for sure that anything illegal was going on at EvThreads. It’s quite possible that Lee’s name has been attached to this story purely for the purpose of getting it some extra attention (and it clearly worked, since we’re reporting on it).
Heck, maybe this is some very misguided publicist’s way of kickstarting a comeback for Evanescence. They say that any publicity is good publicity, but they should probably make an exception for child porn-related publicity.
